The Hayda Lubnan Photo Action

Imagine you wake up and a miracle has happened: all problems of Lebanon have disappeared! What do you see? What do you do?

HAYDA LUBNAN aims to initiate an exchange of how people in Lebanon would like to live. In collaboration with partner organizations in different regions, we create an imaginative space where everyone is invited to share and discuss their dreams and visions.

There might be as many different ideas as there are people in Lebanon – or maybe they share similar dreams?

We invite YOU now to participate and to visualize the most interesting topics and themes that we discussed in workshops and vision labs and to thereby portray different parts of Lebanon.

The Hayda Lubnan Photo Action will take place in 5 cities and will be implemented by the following organizations:

Beirut – Nahnoo

Saida – Blue Mission

Tripoli – Utopia Organization

Tyre – Nahnoo

A jury will select the best photos and award a winner whose photos will be published in a German/English magazine.

Further excitingly, the best photos will be featured in an exhibition that will take place later this in year in Beirut – and from there maybe taken to other participating cities and interested communities.

On the project Hayda Lubnan:

With the project Hayda Lubnan, we aim to encourage Lebanese from different areas and regions to exchange their dreams and visions of a better future by asking the above mentioned miracle question.  

We created three platforms of exchange – one consists of workshops and participatory activities, one publishes articles and media on a webspace, and the third one is an exhibition that we are planning for the end of this year. With the exhibition, we will take the collected results as well as selected photos of the Hayda Lubnan Photo Action to a broader stage and invite the audience to participate, to discuss the presented ideas and dreams and to share their own visions.

WHY do we want to dream?  

The clearer a vision takes shape, the easier it is to take steps towards it. But especially when times are difficult, it is not easy to think (positively) about tomorrow. HAYDA LUBNAN creates an opportunity to encourage individual and communal reflection and give a voice to different aspirations. Developing common visions of a peaceful future is essential because through daily choices of action, individuals, families, enterprises, communities, and nations move towards what they imagine to be a desirable tomorrow.

HOW do we work?

Developing a vision is a process that needs cooperation. The more people and perspectives are involved, the more relevant the discussion becomes. Therefore we include Civil Society organizations from different regions of Lebanon with their ideas on how to work with this question in their specific context. This means, there is not only space to shape a vision but also to actively shape the way of how to get there.

WHO is behind the project?

The project HAYDA LUBNAN is supported by the Civil Peace Service of GIZ. GIZ is a federally owned enterprise that supports the German government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. Advisors and local staff are working in close partnership with local NGOs in order to link committed stakeholders through systematic exchange, to advise on organizational development and to create dialogue across conflict lines.
